Antique Tamil Nadu massive ferocious mythical lion (Yali) and hunter sculpture - hand carved from a single piece of wood (likely teak or walnut) - multi color painted finish with fine detail - unsigned - India (Tamil Nadu) - 19th century. Excellent antique condition - paint loss/fragile original paint - no body loss - no apparent restoration - surface grime with signs of age and use. Size -large - 16" (40.5 cm.) wide x 19" (48.2 cm.) high x 7" (18 cm.) deep. Provenance - Purportedly part of a collection belonging to a former Viceroy of India.
