About the Item

Rare small musk Ox figure/carving. Hand worked Norwegian Pine wood and leather. Burnished makers marks to bottom. Arne Tjomsland was Norways leading souvenir designer in the 1950s and 1960s. Arne Tjomsland's artistic style is characterized by soft structural lines, essence and minimalism, as if his subjects were almost covered in snow. Tjomsland drew inspiration from the Scandinavian fauna, as well as Eskimos and Vikings. He received a Gold Medal in the 1957 Deutsche Handwerksmesse in Munchen Germany, and a Silver medal in the 1960 Triennale di Milano.
