Animal figures were already very popular in the 18th century. The Zwinger in Dresden houses a beautiful collection of large animal figures Mostly made Johann Jacob Kirchner and Johann Joachim Kandler The porcelain animal figures of Kirchner are known for their human facial expressions. Kaendler, on the other hand, was a complete realist. His early porcelain animal groups combine a forceful impression of nature. His bird sculptures are particularly noteworthy, such as jays with squirrels and stag beetles, golden orioles and woodpeckers with May beetles. Animal figures were made all over Europe and stil popular, decorative and sought after collector items.
