About the Item

Aurelio Teno (1927/2013) Fish-shaped sculpture, natural stone and Bronze. Superb sculpture from the 70s by Aurelio Teno, of brutalist inspiration, made from a block of natural red quartz, the shape of which inspired the artist to transform it into a fish. It rests on a marble base. Aurelio Teno Teno was born on September 7, 1927 in Minas del Soldado (Villanueva del Duque - Córdoba). Between 1936 and 1943, he lived in Cordoba where he trained artistically. First as an apprentice in the workshop of sculptor Amadeo Ruiz Olmos, then in a goldsmith's workshop, and since 1939 at the School of Arts and Crafts in Cordoba, where he studied painting and drawing. In 1965 he returned to Madrid, but set up his workshop at Molino del Cubo (Ávila) where he researched new plastic processes. He exhibited his controversial sculpture-paintings at the Ateneo de Madrid. Starting this year, a series of international exhibitions begins in Copenhagen, Paris, New York, Rabat and Saint-Louis (Missouri). In 1976, he consolidated his international prestige as a monumental sculptor by winning the competition to create the sculpture of Don Quixote, which would be erected in front of the Kennedy Center in Washington, in competition with Salvador Dalí and José de Creeft. Eventually, he set up his studio and a museum dedicated to his work in the ancient monastery of Pedrique (near Villaharta), in the municipality of Pozoblanco, as well as a park named after the artist. The Town Hall has created a foundation for the preservation of the artistic heritage of Teno. He died in Cordoba on February 1, 2013, at the age of 84. Superb sculpture by Aurelio Teno, of brutalist inspiration, made from a block of natural quartz, the shape of the stones inspires Aurelio Teno to create his bestiary, here the stone suggests for the artist the body of an owl to which he added bronze to finalize the bird. The sculpture rests on a marble base.
