Carved decoration on white Carrara marble representing a so-called "Bucranium"
It is placed on a Roman travertine base with irons from which it can also be removed and placed at the owner's pleasure on the wall with placement by L-shaped brackets .
Bucranium is a marble decoration often found in Roman and Greek monuments, with the subject of ox skulls or other animals.
The origin comes from the custom of hanging the skulls of oxen or other animals on altars or around temples after ritual sacrifices.
Bucranium was already present in Mesopotamian and Egyptian ceramic art , thus it has a very ancient tradition
