"Come Forth A Dream" Bronze Sculpture by Veryl Goodnight, Ed. 19/25, 1987

About the Item

Presented is an original signed bronze sculpture by American artist Veryl Goodnight. The sculpture is called "Come Forth A Dream" and depicts four running horses, galloping together with free-spirited and unbridled energy. The patinated bronze was cast in 1987 in a very limited edition of only 25. This specific bronze is signed, dated, and numbered 19/25. Veryl Goodnight(b, 1947) is a celebrated contemporary American artist working in Southwest Colorado. Her studio ranch is situated between Durango and Mesa Verde National Park and the dramatic landscape, abundant wildlife, and fellow ranching community provide endless inspiration for her art. Her many years spent in the West, observing, painting, and sketching her surroundings, gave Goodnight a profound awareness of the mannerisms of ranchers and animals alike. This experience translates directly to her art. Goodnight has monumental sculptures across the United States, in Europe, and Japan. The most notable is “The Day The Wall Came Down,” a 14,000 pound bronze sculpture consisting of five larger than life size horses jumping over the fallen Berlin Wall. The United States Air Force flew this monument to Berlin, Germany in 1998 on the 50th anniversary of the Berlin Airlift. It is now installed at the Allied Museum, with a sister casting at the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library in Texas. In November 2019, a maquette of this sculpture was unveiled at the U. S. Air Force Academy, with installed sister maquette castings at the Central Intelligence Agency and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. Goodnight is a Fellow of the National Sculpture Society and a member of the Society of Animal Artists. In 2016, Goodnight was inducted into the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame, for her decades long representation of the American West in art. Her work has been profiled in several books and art magazines. She has had shows at the Autry Museum in Los Angeles, the Old West Museum in Cheyenne, the Eiteljorg Museum in Indianapolis, the Gilcrease Museum in Oklahoma City, the Cowgirl Hall of Fame Museum in Fort Worth, and the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Hole. Vintage Cast-Iron Eagle Sculpture, Early 20th Century
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
This is a cast-iron figural eagle doorstop, circa early 20th century. The eagle is depicted with wings spread wide, perched and mounted to a square marble base. The eagle retains traces of its original gilt surface and is embossed with “F.O.E.” at its midsection, possibly referring to the Fraternal Order of Eagles.   The eagle is both the national bird and the national animal of the United States. The eagle motif has been widely used throughout American history, most notably as part of our Great Seal. The founders of the United States were fond of comparing their new republic with the Roman Republic, in which eagle imagery, usually the golden eagle, was prominent. On June 20, 1782, the Continental Congress adopted the design for the Great Seal of the United States...

It is presented here in its original green cloth front board, stamped with gilt titles and Pinocchio illustration, the original tan cloth spine with gilt titles, newly rebacked in green cloth. The book is protected by a new custom archival slipcase with an inlay of Pinocchio in a forest. Collodi’s La Storia di un Burattino (trans: The Story of a Puppet) first appeared in serial form in the Italian weekly publication for children, Giornale per i bambini. The first installment was published on July 7, 1881 and continued for nearly four months and 15 chapters. Following the mischievous adventures of an animated marionette named Pinocchio, the original series was written as an educational tale of warning to Italian children, stressing the importance of morality, responsibility, and obedience to one’s parents and authority. In the original, serialized version, the flawed and irresponsible Pinocchio is penalized and hanged for his numerous poor decisions and faults of character at the end of Chapter 15. At the request of his editor and by the demand of his many readers, Collodi resumed his serialized story in February of 1882. In these later chapters, Chapters 16–36, the Fairy with Turquoise Hair rescues and revives Pinocchio and eventually transforms him into a real boy. Pinocchio acquires a deeper understanding of himself and his moral responsibilities, making the story more palatable for children. In February 1883, the story was published in Italy as a single book, illustrated by Enrico Mazzanti. It was a huge publishing success. The Adventures of Pinocchio is the world's third most translated book, after the Bible and The Little Prince. Pinocchio was first translated into English by Mary Alice Murray in 1892, whose translation was added to the widely circulated Everyman's Library in 1911. The first US edition was published in 1901, translated and illustrated by Walter S. Cramp and Charles Copeland...

Benjamin Harrison Indian Peace Medal on Presentation Collar, 1889
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
Presented is an original Benjamin Harrison presidential peace medal. This bronze medal was originally struck by the U.S. Mint in 1889 as a peace offering to the various Native American tribes in the U.S. The obverse of the medal has a raised relief side profile bust of President Harrison, with the text "Benjamin Harrison President U.S.A. 1889".
