About the Item

An exceedingly fine Japanese bronze okimono of a Roaring Tiger from the Meiji period, it exhibits the finest chiseling and articulating of detail. The sleek beast is cast in a way that follows a dramatic curvature along his body from his tail through his nose, the overall body detailed with high-polish stripes and a matte texture for the unstriped portions of his fur. The teeth and entire mouth are beautifully detailed and every aspect of the underside is carefully finished as well. Signed Mitani in relief to the belly. Measurements: 8 5/8" H x 15 1/4" W x 5" D [with base]; 7" H x 3 3/8" D x 14 1/2" W [bronze only]
