About the Item
This rare Art Deco marabou sculpture by Max Le Verrier captures the elegance and stylized abstraction typical of the 1930s French decorative arts. Originally conceived as a mascotte – a radiator ornament – this piece belongs to the artist’s celebrated series of animal figures that blend modernist geometry with expressive minimalism.
Crafted in spelter (French: régule), it features a rich, copper-toned patina that adds warmth and depth to its form. The subtle aging of the surface, with patches of exposed metal, gives the piece an unmistakable vintage authenticity – a tribute to its era and to Le Verrier’s mastery of material and form.
With its forward-leaning pose and sharply faceted design, the marabou radiates quiet dignity. Signed on the circular base, this sculpture is both a collectible and a refined decorative object that brings the timeless allure of Art Deco into any space.

Max Le Verrier
Max Le Verrier was born on January 29, 1891, in Neuilly-sur-Seine. He opened his studio in 1919 and won a medal at the famed 1925 Exposition in Paris that gave Art Deco its name. Later, he established a foundry that cast bronze sculptures for Pierre Le Faguays and Marcel Bourain, among others. Although Le Verrier experimented with other alloys, he continued to create pieces in bronze as well. Le Verrier died on June 6, 1973, in Paris.
