About the Item
French School Animalier Sculpture Bronze of a Roped Prize Pig
20th Century France, Signed 'Barex'
This 20th-century French School Bronze Animalier Sculpture, signed 'Barex,' captures a scene reminiscent of the esteemed 19th-century French sculptor Antoine-Louis Barye. Measuring 11 inches wide, 6 inches high, and 5.5 inches deep, this exquisitely crafted piece portrays a realistically cast, disgruntled prize pig. The expressive stance of the pig, its rear right leg roped to a post in the landscape, reflects a moment frozen in time.
The sculpture stands on an oval black marble base, inscribed 'Barex' at the back, confirming this work is not by Antoine-Louis Barye. This artist's skillful modeling evokes a sense of movement and emotion, reminiscent of the animalier style championed by Barye. Although created in the 20th century, this work encapsulates the spirit and artistry of the 19th century French School of Les Animaliers.
