Italian Marble Sculpture of a Dog, Circa 1900

About the Item

The antique sculpture portrays a mastiff, sitting upright in an attentive pose with ears cocked, head canted, and mouth open. Hand carved from a block of green marble, unsigned. The sculpture is an exact copy in miniature of one of a pair of such dogs sculpted in white marble at the entrance to the Uffizi Museum in Florence, Italy. The piece is in excellent condition: the parts missing from the ears are an exact, faithful copy of the original. Pleases see series of photos included. The piece measures 12 ¾ in high x 11 ½ in long x 6 in wide.
