A fine bronze casted sculpture of a Elephant with a calf, resting on a black Belgium marble base. The bronze has the original olive-brown patina. It is made in France, circa 1930-1940. Signed: Irénée ROCHARD. The sculpture has a beautiful patina and is in good condition. After casting the bronze is finely finished with fine chisels, for the fine details. This chiseling process was an enormously time-consuming job. Irénée Rochard was born in Villefranche sur Saône France in 1906, In a family of artists: his mother was a painter and his brother became The actor-singer Armand MESTRAL. This skillfully executed hand carved figural bull is fully dimensional and has a rich brown color. The bull is depicted in a standing position atop a shaped wooden plinth. The muscular animal has been finished with realistic detail with particular attention given to the bull's facial features and folds of skin. The plinth itself is slightly domed at the center and bears carved elements which include a large rock and stylized plants. The bull measures 8" tall and the base is 10.75" x 4.125".
