"The inspiration to sculpt the American bear came from my deep admiration for the majestic strength and symbolic power the bear holds. As an animal deeply tied to the wilderness and the spirit of independence, the bear represents both untamed nature and the resilience of the American frontier. I’ve always been captivated by the bear’s presence—its commanding stature and its role in mythology, folklore, and the natural world. This sculpture reflects my desire to capture the essence of the American wild, emphasizing the bear’s raw power, wisdom, and the deep connection it shares with the land.
The pose I chose for the American bear was inspired by the animal’s natural grace and power, capturing a moment of both alertness and strength. By focusing on this moment of stillness before action, I aimed to convey the majesty and silent dominance that the bear embodies in the wild. I wanted to evoke a sense of awe and respect for this magnificent creature, frozen in time yet very much alive, searching for its next move." - Jesse Nusbaum
