Murano blown glass terrier dog sculpture
About the Item
The terrier dog sculpture is made of blown and stapled Murano glass mixed with gold dust, then colored red and white on the eyes, tongue, and nose.
The object is attributed to Ercole Barovier (Murano 1889, Venice 1974), son of glassmaker Benvenuto Barovier and founder in 1936 of the Barovier and Toso glassworks. It is thus traced back to a Venetian production, between the 1960s and 1970s.
As for the subject depicted, the shape of a terrier breed dog, probably specifically a Scottish terrier, is recognizable.
