About the Item

A one-of-a-kind whimsical papier-mâché sculpture depicting Nick Bottom from Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream." Plaque on base inscribed "Bottom" and underside of sculpture is signed. Attributed to a theatre group in Stratford, Ontario. The sculpture was used as a prop for a theatrical production. Hand painted in earth tones - ochre, green and brown. The figure stands with his arms outreached in a tattered smock. The character Nick Bottom provides comic relief throughout the play. A weaver by trade, he is famously known for getting his head transformed into that of a donkey by the elusive Puck. An intriguing sculpture that elicits conversation. A unique item for Shakespearian or thespian collectors. From a private collection. Dimensions: 44"h x 18"w x 18"d. In excellent condition.
