Pair Antique Chinese Porcelain Shar Pei Puppies Hand Painted Circa 1860

About the Item

This pair of small Chinese Shar Pei puppies was made in the mid-19th century, circa 1860. They are charming creatures with adorable faces. They are decorated with traditional Sancai three-color yellow, purple, and green glazes. Each has a hole on its back to hold a joss* (incense) stick. Each of the puppies has its custom-made wood stand. Dimensions: 2" x 3.5" X 2.5" tall. Condition: Excellent. Price: $1130 The adorable Shar Pei is a fascinating breed of ancient Chinese pedigree. The Chinese Shar-Pei has characteristics that make him a one-of-a-kind dog. They are steadfastly loyal to family. They are strong, independent guardians of the home, famous for their intelligence and loyalty. Their physical traits are a broad hippopotamus-like muzzle, small eyes, tiny triangular ears, and abundant folds of loose skin about the head, neck, and shoulders. *Joss Sticks are traditionally burned before an Asian religious image or shrine. But some joss stick burning rituals do not need to be done in front of sacred images. Instead, they can be burned before anything that implies no limits. For example, in front of a door or an open window.
