About the Item

2 early Art Deco Piranha Fish Bookends Pressed Glass, Ferjac France 1930s French Presglass Fish Bookends, by Fernand Jacob, also known as Ferjac France 1930s. ‘Poisson’. Grey, transparent, frosted pressed glass. Each with a sculpted fish; signed ‘FERJAC FRANCE’ on the glass plinth. Black stone plinth. Around 1930s. Original label of the seller – the famous jewelry-art gallery: L’ACROPOLE – 8, rue Caulaincourt – PARIS . Total height 13 cm. Pol Ferjac (1900-1979) was a French artist, French Resistance member, and father of actress Anouk Ferjac. He was best known in his later years as a caricaturist, but as a young man he attended the Beaux-Arts de Paris (the National School of Fine Arts) and produced many glass figurines in the styles of Sabino and Lalique. The fact that these pieces are so often mistaken for Sabino speaks to their artistic quality and beauty. They are, obviously, somewhat rarer than Sabino pieces. It is difficult to find them in pairs like this.
