About the Item
All hand-carved, Victorian Era, Black Forest hiking bear and cub, liquor tantalus set.
This finely carved Black Forest drinks set, dates from circa 1880 and it is both decorative and usefull. The beautifully etched glass brandy bottle rests inside the bear's 'wooden barrel backpack' and the six matching cordial glasses around it inside small protruding prongs. The antique carving is of a superb quality and this eye catcher and talking piece has a great patina. But what makes it extra rare is the perfectly hand-carved bear cub, that is being carried around in mama's (or papa's) bear arms. We are proud to be able to offer this remarkable antique in such great condition. It truly is a fun and whimsical piece to delight guests and enjoy on the table this (and coming) holiday season(s) for an after dinner aperitif. Because this naturalistic artistry tantalus is carved all around you can also put it in the centre of a dining table or on a large desk.
