Rare Original Antique Swiss Carved Black Forest “Walking Bear” ca. 1920

RARE ORIGINAL CARVED BLACK FOREST "WALKING BEAR" Probably Swiss, circa 1920 Retaining original glass black eyes 9 3/8" H x 5 1/8" D x 16 1/8" W A finely carved Black Forest bear, depicted mid-stride with mouth agape and detailed fur throughout, retaining its original glass eyes. Finished with a rich, dark stain, the figure captures the naturalistic vitality characteristic of late 19th- and early 20th-century Swiss carving. The undersides of the feet are twice marked "XIV". Condition: Numerous shrinkage cracks throughout the wooden body.
