About the Item
This whimsical and captivating trio of owls by acclaimed Mexican artist Sergio Bustamante exemplifies the artist's signature blend of surrealism, craftsmanship, and fantasy. Hand-formed from meticulously cut and layered metal segments, the owl family radiates personality and charm. Their rounded, stylized bodies are composed of intricately pieced strips of brass and silver-toned metal, giving the sculptures a textured, scale-like surface. Each owl features large, expressive brass eyes and a sharply pointed beak that draws attention to their curious, alert expressions. Rendered in the Brutalist tradition of raw materiality and sculptural boldness, this 1970s mixed-media work is both visually playful and structurally complex. Bustamante’s careful attention to detail and imaginative form makes this piece a standout in both modernist and folk-influenced collections. A rare and enchanting set that reflects the artist’s unique narrative style and exceptional metalworking skill.
Each is in good condition overall, with some slight rust and patina throughout each one. The large owl measures 8.75 inches tall, 7 inches wide, and 7.25 inches deep. The medium owl measures 6.5 inches tall, 5.5 inches wide, and 5.5 inches deep. The small owl measures 5 inches tall, 4 inches wide, and 4.5 inches deep.
