A very large antique Victorian brass lobster-form box. English, Late 19th Century. Measures: Height 34cm, width 91cm, depth 41cm. This exceptional piece is a remarkably large brass box in the shape of a lobster, made in Victorian England. Crafted with an excellent level of realism, it comes with a removable top that opens up with a small storage space - the interest and uniqueness of the object however is as a grand, bravado, and unmissable statement piece. Significantly larger than most objects and of this type, it is meant to convey the extravagant and proud temperament of the owner. Clearly meant to be the centre of attention, it is not a piece to miss.

The bronze figurative group on a cylindrical marble base with the mythological god Amor encircled by a large dolphin, signed 'Poirier'. This bronze model is based on the design of an original ancient Roman marble fountain, which was discovered in the city of Pompeii. In 79 AD, the volcano Versuvius erupted, causing the neighboring cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum to become submerged under layers of molten lava and ash. Although the volcanic eruption caused devastation for the people of these ancient cities, the thick layers of ash and pumice preserved many ancient objects and architecture.
