About the Item

A truly stunning large vintage bronze Heron sculptural pond fountain, late 20th century in date. This is a beautiful garden pond fountain sculpted in bronze with contrasting brown and green patina in the Victorian style, dating from the late twentieth century. The fountain features a beautifully detailed pair of sculpted herons standing on a log. The water flows out of nozzles from the beaks and one from the top of the tree trunk. This fountain is cast from solid bronze and was made by the traditional lost wax (cire perdue) method. A lot of intricate detailing has gone into the creation of this special display piece. Add an elegant element to your garden with this lovely fountain, which can be used as a stand-alone fountain or as a centrepiece to a pond. In industrial uses, the modern process is called investment casting. An ancient practice, the process today varies from foundry to foundry, but the steps which are usually used in casting small bronze sculptures in a modern bronze foundry are generally quite standardised.
