About the Item

This bronze sculpture by British contemporary artist Ronald Van Ruyckevelt is a reproduction of his 1990 bronze masterpiece, “Wings of Glory.” The bronze depicts a majestic bald eagle with its wings fully spread open, soaring over a rocky landscape. With an intense stare and intricate feather detail, this sculpture is dramatic and artfully crafted. Van Ruyckevelt has dedicated a large portion of his career to depicting game birds and birds of prey. “Wings of Glory” is easily his most famous bronze artwork, having been copyrighted and reproduced several times since the original’s creation. British artist Ronald van Ruyckevelt was born in 1928. He began his career at Wimbledon School of Art where he was awarded the National Diploma in painting. He then went on to study ceramics at The Royal College of Art, culminating in an Associateship. In August of 1953, he joined the staff of Royal Worcester, one of the oldest remaining English porcelain brands still in existence today. During his career with Royal Worcester, Van Ruyckevelt produced over 65 models. He designed some of the most technically adventurous models Worcester has ever produced, including a limited edition series of big game fish, a series of large game birds, and a number of hand-made tropical flowers. In 1972, Ronald van Ruyckevelt modeled the beautiful wedding doves to celebrate the Silver Wedding of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip. His final work for Royal Worcester was the series of six “Queens Regnant,” completed by the modeler Ken Potts. He left Royal Worcester in 1974 to work from Malvern. He later moved to the United States to run his own ceramic and sculpture company. CONDITION: Good condition overall. Bronze sculpture, with title and dated copyright plaque. Vintage Cast-Iron Eagle Sculpture, Early 20th Century
Located in Colorado Springs, CO
This is a cast-iron figural eagle doorstop, circa early 20th century. The eagle is depicted with wings spread wide, perched and mounted to a square marble base. The eagle retains traces of its original gilt surface and is embossed with “F.O.E.” at its midsection, possibly referring to the Fraternal Order of Eagles.   The eagle is both the national bird and the national animal of the United States. The eagle motif has been widely used throughout American history, most notably as part of our Great Seal. The founders of the United States were fond of comparing their new republic with the Roman Republic, in which eagle imagery, usually the golden eagle, was prominent. On June 20, 1782, the Continental Congress adopted the design for the Great Seal of the United States...
