Bronze Sculpture. Moreau Mathurin Mathurin Moreau (1822-1912) was a French sculptor of the academic style. Born in Dijon, he was renowned for his sculptures exhibited at the Salon, where he received a medal of honor in 1897. In addition to his artistic career, he was named mayor of the 19th arrondissement of Paris, and a street was named in his honor. More details about his life: Family: Mathurin Moreau came from a family of sculptors; his father was Jean-Baptiste-Louis-Joseph Moreau. His brothers, Hippolyte and Auguste Moreau, were also sculptors. Artistic Career: Moreau first exhibited at the Salon in 1848. His work was recognized with a prestigious medal of honor at the Salon in 1897. Notable Works: Among his most notable works is the Fountain of the Four Continents, whose sculptures were later distributed throughout the city. Legacy: His appointment as mayor of the 19th arrondissement of Paris and the dedication of a street in his honor are a testament to his impact on the city.

French late 19th century spelter sculpture by Hippolyte Moreau fitted with original 1 7/8" thick rouge griotte marble base. Hippolyte was one of the famous Moreau brothers, all of whom were sculptors. He was born in Dijon France in 1832 and died in 1927. This statue, in a warm chocolate brown patina depicts a diaphanously dressed woman with flowing scarf overhead and winged cherob at her side resting on the crest of a wave and shell.
