19Th Century Antique Alabaster Bust of Pan on Pedestal with Children Sculpture

About the Item

An antique Italian alabaster bust of Pan on a pedestal with two small children sculpture. Pan not being a major god was still a significant figure in Greek mythology. He was the god of shepherds, music, and fertility, and he was often depicted as a playful and mischievous character. He was also known for his love of music and dance, and often seen playing the panpipes. It is hard to see from our photos alone, but this sculpture is over 20 inches tall and all hand carved out of one large rock of this beautiful mineral stone alabaster. It must have taken one highly skilled artisan weeks if not months to hand-carve this detailed and great quality antique. It's a nice unique sculpture in good condition that has some small chips shown in the photos and video.
