Art Deco Sier Kunst Dancer Sculpture, Austria, 1930s

With the international success of Hagenauer sculptures in the 1930s, other Viennese artists developed similar styles in the "Moderne" idiom. Laszlo Hoenig, Richard Rohac, Karl Aubock, and Sier Kunst all created works that are often mistaken for the works of Hagenauer. This work by Kunst certainly equals, if not surpassing the quality of the objects coming from the Hagenauer studio of the 1930s. The Cossack dancer is carved of wood, and embellished with contrasting nickeled bronze elements. She is highly detailed and stylized, and exhibits an impressive scale. The woods are lacquered, and the metals display a natural patina of age. She is in great original condition, and displays a stamped logo signature on the base. The works of Sier Kunst were produced in a much smaller quantity in the period, making them much more difficult to find today.
