About the Item

Artist: Vladova Vesselina Georgieva, known as Lina Georgieva (born in 1927 - Sofia, Bulgaria). Title: Dancer ("Danseuse"). Bronze green patina 4/8. Signed on the base. Venturi Foundry's Mark. Dimensions: Height: 38 cm. Width: 10 cm. Depth: 10 cm. Biography: Vladova Vesselina Georgieva, known as Lina Georgieva, was born in 1927 in Sofia, in the family of the rich trader Vlado Georgiev. His family house was always full of intellectuals and artists. So, Vesselina met the friends of his father, who were eminent intellectuals : the professor Balabanov, the artist Konstantin Shtarkelov, the director of the Opera Moïse Zlatin… She is also the niece of Bulgarian Prime Minister Kimon Georgiev. She studies at the Academy of Arts of Vienna. In 1947, while she is 20 years old, she moves in Paris to study at the School of Fine Arts " La Grande Chaumière " in Paris. Vasselina dedicates herself to the sculpture thanks to her professor Alberto Giacometti. Of him, she perceived the idea of working sculptures of clay. In 1968, she presents a personal exhibition at the gallery " Eendt " in Amsterdam. Friend of Ernest Hemingway, he gives her the passion of the journeys. She visits India, Israel and Egypt. She says: " I lived several lives. But at the end I always return to the sculpture ". In 1958, she marries the baron Edmond Adolphe Zhuls Jacques Maurice de Rothschild (better known as Baron Edmond de Rothschild Adolf), French branch of the family. However, they divorce after two years on the grounds that Vesselina is too old to give birth to a child (a son besides). Nevertheless, she approached hardly her 35 years. The real motive seems to remain mysterious. In the 1960s, the ambassador in Paris was the professor Vladimir Topenacharov, who met frequently Vesselina Georgieva. He was fascinated at the same time by her erudition and by her desire to help Bulgaria. The journalist Pavel Pisarev, friend of Topenacharov, says of her in his memoirs that she was " very beautiful, intelligent, charming, with an influence in the high spheres of the power (…) ".
