About the Item

A beautiful ceramic figurine, part of the 'Signs of the Zodiac' collection, made in the early 20th century from Capodimonte ceramic painted in gold. Capodimonte is a type of Italian porcelain first developed in the 18th century. It is known for its bright colours, intricate details and striking designs with flowers, animals or mythical figures. Its production requires incredible craftsmanship, as each piece must be hand-painted to create unique designs. For this reason, Capodimonte pieces are highly sought-after and valuable due to their rarity. Over the years, they have become a valuable part of many collections and are considered an important piece of Italian cultural history. The base is spherical in shape, with a simply splendid gold surround. At the base of the feet is the zodiac sign represented by this statue: Cancer. One leg is slightly forward of the other, entirely wrapped in a golden robe. The zodiac sign of Cancer is believed to be represented with a horn because it symbolizes the crab's hard protective shell. The use of this symbol dates back to ancient times as it was seen as an attribute of protection and strength. In astrology, Cancer is ruled by the moon, and its element is water, making the horn-like shape representative of its receptive nature. Additionally, in some cultures, horns represent fertility and abundance. As such, the horn conveys that those born under the sign of Cancer are often seen as being unwavering in their determination and ambition for success. The statue is splendid and is suitable for collectors.
