Early Ming Dynasty Chinese Buddha Statue, circa 14th Century

About the Item

A very fine late Yuan to early Ming Chinese terracotta gilt and polychrome painted Buddha figure, he is dressed in thick robes, his hair arranged in typical early song or Yuan dynasty style and he is sitting on a colorful blue lotus flower. This figure once graced the walls of a Buddhist temple and would have sat alongside a row of other similar images displaying different mudras. Measures: Height 10.5 inches on stand height of Buddha 9.5 inches Width 5.5 inches depth 2.5 inches. Condition: Excellent and fine. One pedal reattached. Wear commensurate of age and use.
