About the Item

A striking and highly decorative ceramic sculptural lidded urn estimated to be from the 1900s, possibly originating from the renowned Søholm ceramic factory during its Skønvirke period under the direction of Hans Ancher Wolffsen (early 20th century). This piece is a fine example of Danish Jugendstil (Art Nouveau), blending naturalistic inspiration with classical form. Crafted in a rich, deep brown glaze, the urn features dramatic sculptural handles in the form of stylized lizard or dragon creatures, typical of Skønvirke’s fascination with organic and mythological motifs. The fluted bowl sits atop a rounded pedestal base with square foot, and the domed lid is topped with a smooth finial, creating a harmonious yet bold silhouette. A rare and elegant collector’s item that would complement any Art Nouveau, Jugendstil, or early 20th-century design collection. Good antique condtion with imperfektions on the glaze, some scratches and shards from age and use. Please see the photos.
