About the Item

Franz Bergman (Austrian, 1861-1936) Cold Painted Viennese Bronze Sculpture, with Bergman foundry impressed Bergman hallmark mark to base, along with NAM GRAB (BERGMAN in reverse). King David & Bathsheba, circa 1905. The story of King David and Bathsheba is a significant narrative in the Bible, found in the Second Book of Samuel, chapters 11 and 12. Bathsheba’s story is multifaceted, encompassing themes of human frailty, sin, repentance, and divine grace. She is remembered not just for her initial involvement with David, but also for her crucial role in the Davidic lineage and her contribution to the legacy of Solomon. Franz Xaver Bergman (1861–1936) was an Austrian sculptor known for his detailed and often whimsical bronze works. He specialized in creating cold-painted bronze statuettes, which typically depicted animals, oriental subjects, and erotic figures. His works were characterized by their vibrant colors and intricate details, achieved through a meticulous cold-painting technique. Bergman operated a foundry in Vienna, where many of his notable works were produced. His sculptures are often signed with a pseudonym, such as "Nam Greb" (a reversal of "Bergman"), to differentiate his more risqué pieces from his other works. Bergman's sculptures remain highly collectible and are celebrated for their artistic quality and historical significance. From a private collection Free international shipping.
