About the Item
Important Gripoix Floral Arrangement, from the former YSL Showroom on West 57th St in New York City. One of an important trio that were used for decoration within the Lalanne designed iron showcases used throughout.
These were obviously commissioned by Mssr Berge or Saint Laurent for the decor from Maison Gripoix in Paris as they also created extraordinary jewelry for many of their collections.
Completely hand made in a process that is dying, where bronze wirework is formed into petals and molten glass is poured into each setting which is then assembled into a floral or leaf form. The entire piece is then dipped in a plating bath to achieve the silver tone on the metal areas. Incredibly labor intensive, this sculpture likely took months to manufacture. Circa 1970's France.
Mssrs Berge and St. Laurent were known to have extraordinary taste, during their lifetimes they amassed one of the most important collections of 19th C. and 20th Century Art and Decorative Arts in the world. A rare opportunity to own something from their incredibly aesthetic lives.
