About the Item
The Kiss - Ceramic Sculpture in Black Stoneware by Rachel Peters, UK, In Stock.
The Kiss is a hand-built ceramic sculpture by Rachel Peters, crafted from richly textured black stoneware clay. The piece rises from two grounded legs into a unified body that then parts again, suggesting an intimate gesture, a moment of connection, or a single, abstracted female form in quiet strength.
The surface is raw and finely textured, preserving the tactility of the clay and the rhythm of the artist’s hand. The sculpture explores duality and presence, strength and softness, unity and individuality, balancing mass and negative space with lyrical sensitivity.
Whether read as two figures embracing or one form in poised motion, The Kiss invites reflection and emotional response. It holds space with quiet power, rooted in form yet open to feeling.

Rachel Peters Ceramics
Inspired by the clean lines and natural materials of Danish design, Rachel seeks to create works that are both beautiful and calming. She finds harmony in soft forms, biomorphic shapes, and muted colours, allowing the materiality of the clay to shine through. Originally from the UK, Rachel’s journey with clay began as a reawakening after a career in social work and a life-changing move to South Africa. Now based back in the UK, her studio is a sanctuary for exploration and self-expression. ‘Clay is my therapy, my meditation, my connection to the earth. It is a reminder that even in the chaos of life, there is beauty to be found in the simple act of creation.’ Hand-built through coiling, her vessels and sculptures are a testament to slow, meditative craftsmanship. The focus is on form and texture – elegant shapes that need no decoration, adorned with the subtle nuances of grogged stoneware and a muted palette. Each piece is a tactile invitation to mindfulness and appreciation for the earth's raw beauty. Since launching her first collection, Rachel’s work has been widely exhibited in galleries in the UK, Europe and Canada. She has shown her work at prestigious events including Ceramic Art London and has been selected for publication in 100 Emerging Artworks Women’s Edition 2024 hosted by Arts to Hearts Project.
