About the Item

Beautiful porcelain work by Ernst Wahliss, depicting a mother with child, probably Aphrodite with armor, made by Royal Vienna around 1900 in Austria. This exceptionally rare work is by Ernst Wahliss, the renowned maker of high-quality earthenware from the early 20th century. This sculpture is a special depiction of maternal love. The young woman sits upon a fountain and gives her son a drink from a bowl. She is masterfully wrapped in a cloth; the child is naked. This figure, which can be viewed from all angles, is of outstanding beauty; everything is exceptionally finely crafted, whether it's the fountain with its water-spouting lion's head, the vegetation, or the mother's openwork, curving hair. The base, too, features an antique band decoration. Measurements approx.: height 9,25 in - 23,5 cm, diameter 5,91 in - 15 cm Art Nouveau porcelain sculptures of this high quality from this well-known manufacturer and with this pleasing motif rarely appear on the market and are sought-after collector's items and display cases.
