"Nude with Bowl, " Rare Art Deco Sculpture by Solon for Amer, Encaustic

About the Item

A classic and rare example of Art Deco sculpture, this piece was designed by Leon Victor Solon, an important color theorist and designer who became the artistic director of the American Encaustic Tile Company (AETCO) in 1922. American Encaustic was, reportedly, the largest tile manufactory in the world, with an enormous factory in Zanesville, Ohio and a magnificent showroom on East 41st Street in midtown Manhattan. This piece depicts a partially-draped female nude holding a large bowl on her shoulder, enrobed in a lovely, pale blue-green glaze.
