About the Item
The Mask - Oxidized copper sculpture by Alessandro La Motta
The unique charm of live copper
This extraordinary oxidized copper sculpture-56 × 45 cm-represents a mysterious mask, suspended between Mediterranean antiquity and contemporary sensibility. Indeed, the surface has green and brown hues that change tone with the light, while subtle incisions outline essential features. Precisely because of the controlled oxidation, each reflection gives depth and an unexpected pulsing "skin" effect.
Technique, matter and experimentation
Alessandro La Motta, an artist at the 54th Venice Biennale, uses copper as if it were canvas, depositing patinas and pigments that, therefore, slowly react to air. In addition, the plate is hammered by hand; however, the yield remains surprisingly light. Again, the oxide produces iridescent glazes that are intensified when, therefore, the work receives grazing light. Thus, the mask seems to come alive; thus, the face-though lacking explicit expression-evokes mixed emotions. So, we are looking at a sculptural piece with a strong aesthetic and collector's value.
A versatile work for characterful interiors
Due to its small size, The Mask can be hung on a wall or, in parallel, placed on a table easel. Therefore, it is suitable for professional studios, modern living rooms, boutique hotels or galleries that aspire to an unconventional artistic accent. Thereafter, the natural color evolution of copper will ensure a continuous change that will, in fact, enrich your space. In addition, the discreet signature on the back certifies authenticity and direct provenance from the artist's atelier.
Contemporary art investment
La Motta has exhibited, although very young, in prominent international contexts; this is evidence of critical attention and a growing market. Despite the apparent delicacy, the sculpture is mounted on durable supports; therefore, stability is guaranteed. Finally, the rarity of the material in the installation field and the uniqueness of the work make the purchase a forward-looking gesture, especially for those who want an object that, still, tells a story of transformation and myth.
