Playful, Whimsical & Unique Decorative Ceramic Figures by Kaley Flowers

About the Item

These playful figures will brighten up your tabletop! Whimsical and absolutely adorable, these talisman-like figures are detailed very artfully with a high gloss finish in a range of super kawaii-colors. Can be used to hold rings and jewelry, or simply to summon riotous joy to any tableau.  Like My Little Ponies updated for the Internet age, each candy-colored ceramic creature by Kaley Flowers has its own unique personality. Sold as a set of three, buyers can select which three figures appeal to them most. Each one is unique and signed on the underside, and whether large or small, simple or elaborate, each of her pieces is sculpted, glazed and tinted with deftness and ingenuity. Kaley Flowers' considered aesthetic lends harmony to a variety of series and one-of-a-kind objects, effective both as individual works as well as when gathered in a cluster. Kaley Flowers is an artist who explores the ideas of digital culture, online trends and early-net ephemera through a mythology of characters and “cyber-artifacts”, in the attempt to solidify the fleeting, virtual imagery of our past and present as tangible objects. Flowers is a graduate of OCAD University and works as an artist-in-residence at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre. Her work has been shown internationally and across Canada in galleries such as Hashimoto Contemporary,, The Hole and the Dunlop Gallery. In 2018, she exhibited alongside Adrienne Crossman at Toronto’s 8eleven gallery, and was awarded the Kent and Doug Farndale Award of Excellence by Craft Ontario.

  • Life-sized Hand-Sculpted & Gilded Ceramic Figural Fruit Bowl by Sean Gerstley
    By Sean Gerstley
    Located in New York, NY
This larger-than-life figural sculpture is functional ceramic serving-ware. Standing nearly 6' feet tall, with hand-sculpted vegetal, delicate leaf-like petals and pinched palm-like trunk, it is topped by a splendiferous fruit crown reminiscent of a pineapple or bunch of bananas. This friendly, human-scale piece offers to serve up three gilded platters of fine cheese, charcuterie, fresh fruit, canapés, or crudités, in a most charming and hospitable fashion. Commissioned for an installation at the Sunset Tower Hotel in West Hollywood entitled 'Hall of Mirrors,' the work is a response to a prompt to materialize the overt display of social media. This piece was created along with two other fruit bowls, each unique. This is the last available fruit bowl of the original trio. Sean Gerstley (b. 1989) is a Philadelphia-based ceramicist. Working primarily with clay, Gerstley creates both sculptural and functional objects, pinching the surfaces of his coil-built forms finished off with colorful glazes. Expanding the role of ceramics from dinnerware or vessel to larger scale objects such as tables or floor lamps, Gerstley imagines interiors made entirely of his chosen medium. After graduating from the ceramics program at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2012, Gerstley showed work made in collaboration with Katie Stout at Salon 94 in New York and Nina Johnson...

  • Hand-built Supersized Ceramic Cup & Saucer Sculpture by Brooklyn Artist Jaye Kim
    By Jaye Kim
    Located in New York, NY
Hand-Built Glazed Ceramic Sculpture, entitled 'Cup & Saucer' by Brooklyn-based artist and ceramicist Jaye Kim. This generously oversized cup and saucer is scaled up for maximum impact, and glazed in a glossy mix of exuberant teal and vibrant royal blue that emphasizes the drippy textured surface with a subtle sheen that catches the light. This work is in two separate pieces, the cup, which sits atop the saucer. The cup can function as a vessel for an enormous bunch of flowers, a cachepot for a plant, or stand alone as a decorative object. With its monumental proportions, this piece brings a mega-size sense of whimsy and cheekiness to any setting. Jaye Kim is a Korean-American artist living and working in Brooklyn, NY. Her ceramic work is an exploration of her interior world regarding the symbolism and rituals of motherhood. Depicting the mundane objects Kim interacts with daily in ginormous scale, from cups and saucers to skin care face masks and cabbages, the ordinary is transformed into the interpersonal. In her oversized hand built vessels, surface details derived from her coiling and pinching emerge to tell a story about our everyday domestic objects, highlighted by delicate lustres and stunning, saturated glaze work. Jaye Kim is a graduated of the School of Visual Arts, where she studied animation. Her work has been shown at Egg Collective...

  • French Decorative Ceramic Wall Plaque with Three Figures by Les Argonautes 1960s
    By Les Argonautes
    Located in London, GB
French vintage decorative ceramic wall plaque with three figures, by Les Argonautes, Vallauris, France (circa 1960s). A refreshingly naive and charming piece depicting three men in olden robes and hats. It is up to the viewer to decide who they represent. This stoneware piece is weighty and substantial and may be hung on the wall or simply allowed to lean against a vertical surface. There's no doubt it is a charming piece by a renowned pair of French ceramicists who created 'Les Argonautes' pottery studio. This piece is signed on the backside: 'Les Argonautes'. It is in good condition. Hanging string on rear. Upon request a video may be provided. About the artists: Isabelle Ferlay (Born 1917) and Frédérique Bourguet (1925-1997) set up a pottery studio together in Vallauris in the South of France which they named 'Les Argonautes'.
