Rare 18th Century Limewood Sculpture of a Royal Figure, Probably Roi Louis XV

A rare and captivating 18th-century hand carved sculpture in limewood, depicting a noble or royal figure — probably King Louis XV — shown in heroic posture with one hand clasped to his chest and the other once likely grasping a now-missing scepter, baton, or lance. This evocative gesture, along with the classical garb, cloak, and articulated breastplate, underscores the symbolic strength and authority of the subject. The figure is rendered in limewood (tilleul), a prized medium for European sculptors of the 17th and 18th centuries due to its fine grain, smooth texture, and ability to retain intricate detailing over centuries.
