About the Item
The face of Alessandro La Motta - Material sculpture in wax, plaster and black carbon-Biennale Venice
A unique tactile and visual experience Biennale Venezia
The sculpture The Face, created by Alessandro La Motta, proposes a new dialogue between light and shadow thanks to the selected materials: wax, plaster and black carbon. Indeed, the fusion of these three substances gives the surface a surprising depth; in fact, the black carbon parts emphasize the lines of the face, while the wax and plaster create soft reliefs.
Mixed media: experimentation and craftsmanship-Biennale Venice
The work, in excellent overall condition, measures 45 cm in overall height with base, and the head alone is 24 × 17 × 13 cm. In addition, the choice of accumulating layers of plaster over wax and then spreading black carbon is a refined and unique process. This mix, however, requires great expertise; La Motta has refined the technique in his workshop so that stability and durability are guaranteed.
The charm of the material and the strength of the face
Thus, the contrast between the candid opacity of the plaster and the deep black of the carbon creates a strikingly scenic effect. As the light etches the profile, warm reflections emerge that seem to animate the face. Although the sculpture remains solid, there is a feeling of lightness and tension, so the work takes on a symbolic and sensual character at the same time.
Alessandro La Motta: international vision
The artist was invited to the 54th Venice Biennale, and is known for his participation in prestigious exhibitions-Barcelona, Lubelsky Gallery in New York, Universal Expo in Shanghai, Hebron, Jerusalem and Dakar. Therefore, to own one of his pieces is to come into possession of a work esteemed by critics and the global market. In addition, La Motta always manages to blend Mediterranean myth and contemporary research.
Why Choose This Sculpture?
So, The Face is perfect for those who want to add a strong personality element to their space, be it a studio, a minimalist living room or a private gallery. In addition, the low height makes display easy, while the solid base ensures stability. Finally, the work is ready to be shown, thanks to its impeccable condition.
