About the Item

A wonderful bisque porcelain reproduction of The Three Graces, after Antonio Canova, one of the most celebrated artists of the 17th century. Canova's masterpiece The Three Graces is a Neoclassical sculpture, in marble, of the three mythological daughters of Zeus – usually identified as Euphrosyne, Aglaea and Thalia. They were said to represent mirth, elegance and beauty. This particular copy was made by the Hertwig Porcelain Factory, also known as Hertwig & Co. and located in Katzhütte, Thuringia. Established in 1864, the factory specialized in producing a variety of porcelain items, including children's dolls, decorative objects, and novelty items. The factory operated until the 1950s, with its operations transitioning to a state-owned entity after World War II. This statue bears the mark of the Hertwig factory on the base, corresponding to items made between 1910 and 1945. A gorgeous piece in near perfect condition, with no breaks, scratches or flaws.
