Very Large Polished Amethyst “Open Geode” with Calcite Formation and Agate

About the Item
This is an extraordinarily complete geode, split in two and mounted atop a custom metal Stand. This piece celebrates the visual phenomenon of the geode in its entirety, with some parts of the sculpture being rough basalt, and others showcasing combinations of the amethyst and calcite formations. The outer layer is rough basalt, varnished in black, allowing us to imagine how the stunning crystals were formed inside the bubble-like cavities of volcanic rock, millions of years ago. This piece also reflects the beauty of a natural wonder, as the interior presents intense, deep purple, large amethyst crystals. Protected through the passage of millions of years is a milky calcite formation, preserved at the heart of the piece, enhancing the wonder of this natural treasure. The edges of the geode have been polished around, revealing a vibrant combination of green celadonite, brown and grey agate, together with white quartz that all frame the amethyst creation on the inside. This piece is special as it’s hard to find a complete geode that allows us to visually see the natural magic that occurred inside these Prehistoric volcanic rocks. A one of a kind museum piece, stunningly decorative, very impressive for its size and displayed on a custom metal stand.
This piece was legally and ethically sourced directly in the prestigious mines of Uruguay, South America. Uruguayan amethyst is internationally recognized as being the finest and most aesthetic amethyst in the world, due to its intense deep purple coloration, the large size of its peaked crystals, and its durability. These crystals were formed over 120-140 million years during the Cretaceous period, and as all of our pieces are formed naturally, they are completely unique and unrepeatable natural wonders of art.

- 'Quoting Charles Darwin I' a Fine Taxidermy Tableaux by Sinke & Van TongerenBy Sinke & Van TongerenLocated in Haarlem, NLThis monumental work is inspired on the famous quote of Darwin. “If everyone were cast in the same mould, there would be no such thing as beauty.” It is because of this quote that we added Darwin to our name Darwin, Sinke & van Tongeren. This quote also fits our goal to do all our taxidermy work without the use of factory moulds that are typical for contemporary taxidermy. We sculpt all our bodies by hand and therefor can create the unique poses like how they line up in this mayor work. We combined many different birds with many different features from many different points of the compass. Together they form a 17th Century like composition of colours and poses. This collection varies from the rare African Congo Peafowl and a gracious Stanley Crane to a regular Dutch chicken. Quoting Charles Darwin...Category

- Bavarian Pharmacy BalanceLocated in New Orleans, LAThis amazing and extremely rare Bavarian Biedermeier-period pharmacy balance stand would have been at home at any apothecary’s shop during the mid-19th century. Crafted of walnut with bold giltwood accents, this stand holds eight separate sets of balances with brass beams and pointers, and weighing pans made of Horn, brass and porcelain. The balances measure out varying sizes; the largest is capable of measuring up to 500 grams, while smallest weighs up to 5 grams. Such balances would have been essential tools in the practice of compounding, or creating customized medications to suit a specific patient's needs. The delicate porcelain scales even indicate what they were used to weigh: one set is marked “Jodoform,” or iodoform, a disinfectant and antiseptic once used to treat wounds, and the other is marked “Venena,” which is Latin for “poisons.” Each scale also exhibits stamps indicating that they have been tested for accuracy. It is extremely rare to find such a large array of scales, especially those in such wonderful condition, in one collection. This intriguing piece is a must for any medical antiques enthusiast. The units of measurement in which apothecaries worked were often minute: grains, scruples, drams and ounces. As they were typically used to measure very small amounts of ingredients, apothecary and analytical balances...Category
