About the Item

Designed in 1957. Manufactured from 1957 to 1968. One of Kai Franck's representative works, it was exhibited at the 1957 Milan Triennale, where it won the Grand Prix. Designed as a product for everyday use, its beautiful form and high level of craftsmanship led to it being sold as an art piece from 1960 to 1968. As a result, there are two product numbers: “1500” for items produced from 1957 to 1959, and “KF500” for items produced from 1960 to 1968. The design is intended for pouring alcohol into the upper bottle and water into the lower carafe. The upper spherical stopper is a rare piece made using a smoke technique rather than transparent glass. The smoke technique was accidentally discovered in 1947 by Gunnel Nyman and glass master Olavi Helander while they were working. It involves trapping tiny bubbles inside the glass to create a thin, misty grey glass. Signed ‘K.Franck Nuutajarvi Notsjo -64’ It was manufactured in 1964.
