About the Item
Figured Monumental Vase in Ceramic C.A.S. ( Ceramiche Artistiche Solimene ) of Vietri, Italy.
The vase depicts a human figure with vertical blue and white striped decoration, the head is carved with marked and visible facial features, the arms are bent and adhered to the sides, also serving as handles. The vase colors have muted but rich tones dominated by pink,blue,ochre and brown.
The ceramic manufacture "C.A.S." (Ceramiche Artistiche Solimene) of Vietri Marina, located in the province of Salerno, was founded in 1937 by Vincenzo Solimene. Based on a design by architect Paolo Soleri, in 1951, construction of a new and more In the 1980s and 1990s, a number of ceramics were produced from the factory's kilns based on a design by architect Ugo La Pietra. In the early 1990s, Vincenzo Solimene, together with his sons, acquired an old factory at Bonea, and two years later the "Bottega-Scuola di Ceramica Centro Studio d'Arte Vietrese" was created. The top floor of the factory houses a museum space where, in addition to the works of family members, the artistic creations of those who have collaborated with the manufacture over the years are housed. The factory closed in 2005.
