About the Item

Large Amlash Terracotta Jar from Iran, 1st Millennium B.C. A finely proportioned terracotta jar from ancient Amlash, characterized by its harmonious silhouette and warm earthen surface. The vessel displays a bulbous body that tapers gracefully to a broad shoulder, rising into a tall cylindrical neck and culminating in a subtly flared rim. This elegant form embodies the aesthetic sensibility of Amlash potters, who created utilitarian wares with enduring beauty and balance. The surface retains a rich, reddish-brown hue with areas of lighter patination and minor surface accretions, consistent with age. Vessels of this type were used in daily life for storing liquids or grains. Provenance: From a London, UK gentleman’s collection of ancient pottery and artefacts, acquired in the 1990s. This large Amlash jar is an evocative example of early terracotta craftsmanship, offering both historical authenticity and timeless decorative appeal.
