Gorgeous Mid-20th Century Mid Century Modern Northern California Pottery light blue & black lidded biscuit jar signed by Niels Frederiksen. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear even if it has been refinished or restored. Specifically, no outstanding flaws detected. Who took the cookie from the cookie jar??? Not ME! Yes… YOU!!! Couldn’t be! Then WHO???? Well, I guess if you have to get caught with your hand in a cookie jar, THIS is the one it should be caught in!!! It is STUNNING!!! This is a wonderful Mid Century Modern Northern California Pottery biscuit (or cookie) jar or vessel comprised of hand-crafted glazed stoneware pottery bearing a beautiful light blue & black all-over diamond pattern, a separate dome shaped lid with a lovely light blue arched handle, & it is signed on the base by Niels Frederiksen!!! And listen, let’s not limit it’s uses to biscuits & cookies… it would be wonderful filled with candies, snacks, dog treats, or anything small that needs a stylish storage capsule. It will be marvelous on your desk filled with pens and small office supplies, on a buffet top in the dining room full of your favorite treats, in a display case or hutch surrounded by other lovely ceramics & pottery or standing solo on a shelf in ANY room. If you are a lover of incredible hand-crafted stoneware pottery, THIS lidded jar needs to be in your collection!! Niels Frederiksen was born in 1917 and would grow to become an acclaimed American studio potter, painter, & artist active in the Bay area of California in the late 1930-1940’s. He studied under artistic master potter giants Marguerite Wildenhain & Edith Heath at UC Berkeley. He hand crafted distinctive stoneware pottery works including covered jars, vases, platters, bowls, and more. He passed away in 2005. Call it a biscuit or cookie jar… Call it a candy, dog treat, or storage vessel.
