Near Pair of Chinese Famille Rose Ginger Jars with Peaches, Roses and Bats

About the Item

This near pair of antique Chinese porcelain ginger jars features an exuberant famille rose palette with auspicious motifs. Each jar is hand-painted with fruiting peach branches, a traditional Chinese symbol of longevity and prosperity, accented by delicate blooming flowers and fluttering bats. While similar in scale and composition, the jars present subtle differences: one jar incorporates a scenic water motif near the base and has a slightly larger finial. Both lids are domed and retain their original knobs. Executed in fine overglaze enamels, the decoration wraps fluidly around the tapering baluster forms, highlighting the careful brushwork and vibrant coloration associated with export wares of the late Qing or Republic period. The interiors and bases are unglazed; the foot rims show appropriate wear consistent with age. These jars display beautifully as a set despite their minor differences and would make a striking statement on a console or mantel. Note: Each jar measures approximately 26 inches tall with lid and 13.5 inches in diameter at their widest point. Mouth openings: 8" – 8.5" wide.
