Pair of Empire Style Carved, Painted and Gilded Wooden Urns

About the Item

This dramatic and decorative pair of urns made in France in the 1920's are in the popular empire revival style. Turned as a rather stretched Campania urn on a stand the vases are then finely water gilded at the edges of each turned element. The gilding is done on gesso and with red boulle creating the time-honored luster of gold enjoyed by the finest customers of the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries. The rest of the forms are then painted and polished out in a deep rich green creating the effect of antique patinated bronze. The pair makes statements as simple forms but can be used as flower vases or even as lamps but would require drilling. They are very compatible with the pedestals we have on our web site and labeled with reference number1302018113963
