About the Item

An antique Vietnamese Annamese planter, distinguished by its vivid green glaze and sculptural surface detail. The vessel’s rounded body is richly decorated in relief with phoenix birds among flowering branches, symbols of renewal and harmony in East Asian decorative traditions. The rim is finished with an undulating scalloped edge, its curves enhanced by a cobalt-blue glaze visible along the interior lip, lending an additional layer of depth and contrast to the overall design. The thickly applied glaze ranges from deep emerald to lighter mossy tones, pooling in the recesses of the relief and highlighting the raised decoration. Subtle variations, areas of wear, and kiln firing effects add to its tactile character. The planter’s size and form suggest it may once have been used in a domestic garden or courtyard setting, where its rich colors would have stood out against natural greenery. With its striking palette, sculpted ornament, and time-worn presence, this Annamese planter makes a compelling decorative accent today, equally suited to use as a jardinière, a vessel for seasonal arrangements, or a standalone sculptural piece within an interior.
