Pair of Mid-20th Century Chinese Carved Rosewood Vase Stands

About the Item

A finely made pair of Chinese hardwood vase stands or plinths, dating to the mid-20th century, circa 1930–1950. Each stand is of circular form with an inset display ring, raised on shaped feet and featuring a pierced apron with traditional foliate scroll carving. Crafted from a dense tropical hardwood, most likely Hongmu (a prized Chinese rosewood), the stands display an attractive reddish-brown tone with rich figuring and natural variation to the grain. These pieces were likely produced during or just after the Republic period and reflect both the enduring aesthetic of Qing dynasty design and the refinement of 20th-century Chinese craftsmanship. Dimensions: Height: 7.5 cm (2.95 in) Diameter: 26 cm (10.25 in) Inner ring diameter: 20 cm (7.9 in) Condition: Good vintage condition. Surface wear consistent with age. One stand shows a slight opening to the top ring, as pictured. Structurally sound with a warm, mellow patina. Elegant and practical, these plinths offer an ideal platform for displaying vases, jars, or sculpture.
