About the Item

This delicate and finely crafted pair of PZH Gouda “Violetta” vases dates back to 1899, as marked by the B date code on their bases. Created by the renowned Plateelbakkerij Zuid-Holland (PZH), these vases represents the finest of Dutch Art Nouveau design. The thin, almost porcelain-like earthenware is adorned with intricate, hand-painted floral and abstract motifs in soft tones of lavender, cream, gold, and green, set against white background. The Violetta decor exemplifies PZH’s mastery of blending naturalistic forms with artistic stylization. The graceful motifs and delicate coloring reflect the Art Nouveau movement’s celebration of nature and ornamental beauty. These vases, intended purely for decoration, showcase the factory’s focus on creating objects of refined artistry rather than functional use. In remarkable condition for their age, with no visible cracks, chips, or damage, these vases are a testament to PZH’s skilled craftsmanship. Their historical significance and visual appeal make them a prized addition to any collection of Dutch pottery or Art Nouveau decorative arts.
