About the Item

Magnificent vintage violet Bohemian glass vase Attributed to Vladislav Urban for Hermanova Hut Sklo Union Czech Republic. This piece has been attributed based upon archived research including online sources, vintage documentation and catalogs, designer literature, and other materials however, it is not signed or marked in any way. Beautiful condition, keeping in mind that this is vintage and not new so will have signs of use and wear. No outstanding flaws seen. Age wear to bottom. Please see photos, zoom in for details, and see long description as they are part of the condition report. We attempt to portray any imperfections. Circa, 1960’s. The color VIOLET symbolizes nobility, spirituality, enlightenment, royalty, and luxury. It bears quite the elevated status as it is the color worn and represented by Roman emperors, monarchs, and princesses! Concerning this majestic violet vase, Royalty seems fitting! This is a GORGEOUS vintage violet (or lavender if you prefer!) colored Bohemian pressed glass vase Attributed to Vladislav Urban for Hermanova Hut Sklo Union Czech Republic. The attributed piece was referenced in: Newhall Marcus: Sklo Union-Art Before Industry 20th Century Czech Pressed Glass pg. 98. It bears a beautiful (and quite heavy) tapered cylindrical body exhibiting stacked horizontal oval glass lobes. The lights in the room bounce and reflect so magically from the lobes giving this vase a wonderful dimension and unique aura. It’s nothing short of STUNNING! This vintage beauty is sure to be a lovely addition to your glass or vase collection or would be just as fabulous displayed solo on a shelf or in a table-scape. It would be beautiful on a mantle, a desk, on a coffee or accent table... just about anywhere in any room! It’s quite simply a marvelous example of exquisite Czechoslovakian pressed glass ready to grace your home with its impeccable presence. Vladislav Urban was born in 1937. He studied and graduated from Karel Stipl where he also studied with Frantisek Vizner. Both would go on to join Rudolf Jurnikl at Rudolfova Huta in 1958 where Vizner, Urban, & Jurnikl became a well-known trio with an unmistakable appearance in the Czechoslovakian pressed glass world. Mr. Urbans works were characterized by distinctive shapes, textures, and unique optic & geometric structures. In 1971 he was forced to retire from the artistic center in Teplice and would change direction to work in the furniture industry. Vladislav Urban passed away in 2022. Hermanova Hut, also known as Czech Glass Factory, was founded in 1907 for production of technical glassware that would eventually expand and include domestic glass. After 1945 the company became a major factory within the United Czech Glassworks and became part of Sklo Union in 1965. In 1992 the factory split into separate companies and the production at Hermanova Hut ceased in 2002. The other company changed names several times but is still in production today under the name Stolzle-Oberglas. Sklo Union was established in 1965 as a way to unite all Czech and Moravian glassworks producing pressed glass. It is a virtual gallery where individuals can visit and admire a phenomenal collection of Czechoslovakian and Moravian glassworks including vases & jardinieres, explore elite designers, and learn about the history of pressed glass and its evolution & change over time.
